Ida Harris

Ida joined Atlanta Natural Hair Care in August of 2009. Ida Harris has been a natural hair stylist for 15 years. Her work has been featured in Essence, Natural Hair Styles, and Braids and Beauty magazines. She has also written several editorial pieces on natural hair care and culture. Her website, HOTPEEZNBUTTA, features blogs about natural hair care and happenings in the natural hair care community.

Alyssa & Nicole

Alyssa & Nicole joined Atlanta Natural Hair Care this month, June of 2010. They are the creators of L.Y.N.K.H. (Love Your Natural Kinky Hair). L.Y.N.K.H is a support group for naturally textured hair, those transitioning to natural hair or individuals that would like to share their hair journey. L.Y.N.K.H.'s goal is to provide information, natural hair care product recommendations, and homemade recipes along with LynkhUp events to discuss our natural hair care needs face-to-face. Your beautiful kinky hair requires a loving commitment from you to make it look, feel and be its healthy best. L.Y.N.K.H. is here because Alyssa and Nicole love their natural hair texture and want to help you embrace your natural hair journey as well.

Farrah and Kiki joined Atlanta Natural Hair Care in September of 2009. According to their website, MahoganyKnots they "have been friends and natural hair buddies for years and just decided to do our own blog and videos." For those of you that are new to the online natural hair community and a bit confused with all of the terms being thrown around on the natural hair blogs and videos, MahoganyKnots' Terms to Know page is very useful.

Yoruba Brown

Yoruba joined Atlanta Natural Hair Care this month, June of 2010. In describing herself Yoruba says "I am an Atlanta based freelance fashion writer/blogger. I specialize in reviews on new and innovative styles and fashion. I am making the personal journey from relaxed to natural hair, and would love to make new friends and connections as well as write about those experiences along the way." Ask Kenya



Atlanta Natural Hair Care is launching a new advice column, “Ask Kenya", featuring expert stylist and co-creator of the Natural Styling Guide DVD, Kenya Flauntleroy. Kenya is a senior stylist for Too Groovy Salon. She with the help of her partner Allyson Brown, created of the Natural Styling Guide DVD, a DVD created “to help women around the world embrace natural hair and feel confident about their hair no matter the texture". Kenya exclusively styles natural hair and has also taught classes at the World Natural Hair Health and Beauty Show as well as provided Natural styling demonstrations at local natural hair meet ups in the Atlanta area. Kenya holds a degree in Biology from Spelman and prior to becoming a stylist she worked as an application chemist, making her familiar with many of the ingredients used in today's hair care products.

Finding What You Need

Atlanta Natural Hair Care is your resource for natural hair care in Atlanta. Here are some tips for making it easier to find what you need on the site.

  1. In the upper right had corner of the screen above the title of the page there is a search box. Just type in what you are searching for click on the magnifying glass icon and relevant reviews, videos, and discussions will be listed.
  2. Join a Group is that is relevant to your needs. Members of groups are alerted via email when new discussions or comments are posted to the group page. Members of the Products group are updated weekly with information about discounts and new distributors of natural hair care products.
  3. Use the advance search option on the Members page to find members that are stylists, salons, distributors, or that live near you. you can send members messages and friend requests.
  4. If you can not find what you need. Email us at atlanta_hair@yahoo.com and we will do everything we can to help you. If we can not help you we will put you incontact with with some one who can.

    Lexi Nicole

    Lexi Nicole (Alexis Fielder) has been a member of Atlanta Natural Hair Care since November 2009. Lexi is the creator of the Facebook Group Gorgeous Atlanta Naturals. She is also well known for her Youtube channel, LexiWithTheCurls. In addition to Gorgeous Atlanta Naturals and LexiWithTheCurls, Lexi created the website Curls, Coils, & Kinks. In describing her site Lexi says, "I definitely have no intentions of making this site about me. I want this site to be interactive and know about you all and your hair. We all don’t have the same hair texture so I want to showcase all of my curly, coily and kinky ladies so everyone can relate to someone."

    Also today, Sunday May 30th, Lexi will be on BET's MY BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL at 1:00pm. MY BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL celebrates the unique and dynamic qualities of the African-American woman. Hosted by BET’s own Tasha Smith, MY BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL is an energetic, interactive and informative lifestyle, beauty and fashion series that uplifts and inspires African-American women by celebrating their unparalleled beauty.

    Marcia Dore

    Marcia Dore is our newest member. Marcia joined Atlanta Natural Hair Care on Saturday, May 29th. Her Youtube channel is Str8Natural. She is also a spokes model for Sutera Hair Spa and Groove Therapy. When speaking about her YouTube channel Marcia says, "We are the first generation that will pass down the love of natural hair to future generations. This natural hair community on YouTube is a part of changing the course of our hairstory and I am so proud to be a contributing author in this new chapter. I consider it an honor and accept it as a calling."

    This video is a demonstration of a quick updo style. This week Atlanta Natural Hair Care is challenging its member to try this style and post pictures of their results in the comment box below the video. Let's see how this style varies when it is done on different hair types. "Quick...Messy...Updo" pictures will be featured in next week's update.

    Tips for Promoting Yourself on Atlanta Natural Hair Care

    Last week we provided tips to salons and stylists for promoting their services. The same basic tips hold true for you all promoting blogs, YouTube channels, websites, natural hair care products, etc.

    To better promote your services on Atlanta Natural Hair Care we suggest the following:
    1. Update your profile information to include your contact information, a link to your website, and a description of what it is you are promoting.
    2. Join or start a group is that is relevant to what you are promoting. This makes it easier for members and visitors to the site to find your profile page
    3. Post photos and videos of what you are promoting.
    4. Click and drag the most relevant information to the top of your profile page to make it more prominent.
    5. If you do not currently have a website, utilize your Atlanta Natural Hair Care page as your website. Your website name is AtlantaNaturalHair.com/profile/yournamehere.
